My Story
My journey began 12 years ago, and it was through navigating my own grief that I stumbled upon my true passion and purpose: helping and supporting others through their personal experiences of grief.
Grief is a natural part of being human, yet it’s often left out of the conversation. It’s something we all experience, and while it can feel like a heavy weight, I believe it also has the potential to be incredibly beautiful and transformative, if we let it.
Each of us has a story to tell. We all come from different walks of life, and along the way, we start to craft smaller stories that shape our identities, even when they no longer fit. Grief often brings these stories to the forefront, forcing us to confront our deepest emotions and beliefs. This process can feel overwhelming, but it also offers a unique opportunity for growth and healing.
Through exploration, emotional processing, and self-discovery, we can start to let go of these limiting narratives that no longer serve us. Grief gives us the chance to reassess our lives, discover new meanings, and rewrite our stories in a way that honors our loss, helping us move forward with renewed resilience and hope.
We hold the pen; we are the author of our own life.
As a passionate storyteller, I believe in the power of stories to spark connection, foster a sense of belonging, and create moments of relatability, like "Hey, I get you!" By sharing our experiences, we strengthen our relationships and make our connections even more meaningful.
My hope is that by sharing my story openly and expressing my vulnerability, it holds up a mirror for what’s possible for you too.
There is a beautiful life waiting for you on the other side of grief.
How it began:
In the summer of 2012, life threw me a curveball when I was diagnosed with a chronic health condition- a progressive visual impairment that has gradually taken aspects of my sight over the last 12 years.
This marked the beginning of my grief journey.
Navigating through highs and lows, my mental health deteriorated rapidly. Alongside the loss of my health, I faced a series of secondary losses:
Loss of security
Loss of identity
Loss of income
Loss of freedom
Loss of independence
Loss of ability to drive
In those early months of grief, I kept asking myself "why?"
There were moments when I doubted whether I could continue, grappling with depression, anxiety, and the uncertainty ahead.
I sat in this energy for some time before realizing that there had to be something more.
My story couldn't end here...
The Healing Experience
What transpired:
In the fall of 2018, I turned to ancient philosophies and remedies, making a conscious choice to explore alternative treatments. I connected with incredible holistic practitioners who played a crucial role in transforming my grief and, ultimately, my entire life: mind, body, and soul.
I started therapy and embraced holistic practices that allowed me to navigate my grief while living life to the fullest.
The changes were pretty amazing- I actually started seeing better (which had never happened before) and felt this weight of grief slowly lifting off my shoulders.
Not only did my physical health improve significantly, but my mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being went through profound shifts as well.
I started feeling more positive again, and suddenly the laughter and smiles that were absent for so long, once again became part of my daily life.
Confronting and processing my grief led me to a place of acceptance, where I could rebuild myself and my life after loss.
This sparked a thirst and hunger for life and a renewed sense of purpose that has brought me to today.
Where I am now:
I am living a life full of meaning and purpose while honoring and navigating the never-ending waves of grief.
In my work as a Grief and Loss Practitioner, I support women ready to move forward, helping them process their emotions, address the complexities of loss, find practical ways to rebuild their lives, uncover new opportunities, and create a future filled with healing and hope.
Outside of Heart Centered Healing, I facilitate grief and loss support groups and workshops for a non-profit organization that holds a special place in my heart: Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).
Today, my mental and physical health is the strongest it has been since my journey began 12 years ago. This is a testament to the power of transforming our grief. Through this journey, I have built confidence, cultivated healthier relationships, and discovered a deeper connection to myself and others. It has shown me that it is possible to live fully, embracing both joy and sorrow, and to find hope and resilience even in the face of profound loss.
